The author emphasizes the multidimensional complexity of the psychic apparatus. The theoretical and metapsychological approach to the latter cannot be reduced to linear causalities. Based on years of observing a child with his mother by a psychoanalyst, this article concerns the impact of very early trauma on the process of symbolization in the child. The destruction of free association and symbolization results in psychic petrification, somatization or acting-outs. A theory of the processes of symbolization is supported by an analysis of motor development. This elaboration is based on a topic and a notion of the unconscious described by S. Freud after 1920 in “Beyond the Pleasure Principle”.
