The dementalization of the parent, which implies representational deficiency, can seriously threaten the psychic development of the infant, hindering the capacities of the parent to identify with the child. In this particular psychopathological context, therapies conducted jointly with parents and infants are especially difficult and hinge on the representational capacities of the analyst, aiming at developing the infant’s psychic awareness.
