Fibromyalgia is a syndrome involving widespread generalized pain and chronic fatigue without there being an organic lesion or a known pathological etiology. The author describes the psychic functioning of women suffering from fibromyalgia who oscillate between sensorimotor hyperactivity and exhaustion. The author further questions how this might be related to hysteria and particularly to the mother-daughter relationship and the notion of the therapeutic child in the history of these patients.
