For Nicole Oresme all knowledge comes from sense perceptions. A comparative analysis of two of his questions, question III.1 on the Physics and question « de apparentia rei », shows that visual perception gives us very few certainties. So to resort to imaginary perceptions, far from being a gratuitous mathematical game, is a means for enlarging the scope of the knowable.
