France and the Entry of the Two Germanys in the United Nations
Type de matériel :

The admission of the two German States in the UN was an important concern for France: Paris wished to support the FRG, its closest partner, and thus wished to further Ostpolitik (because in fact it enshrined the partition of Germany). At the same time Paris wanted to avoid conceding any advantage to the USSR, not did it wish to endanger the « reserved rights of the Four », the mainstay of the control France wanted to retain over possible developments of the German question, nor did it wish to put France’s role at the UN in danger. On these different issues the solution which was adopted suited Paris and reinforced its comfortable position in the Cold War.
