This article sheds light on the process through which a farming community has managed to influence the conditions of its participation in an agribusiness project, by examining the different steps and factors involved. Based on a case study carried out in 2016 in northern Mozambique, it aims at contributing to the renewal of the theorization of the land issue. Its conclusions go against the dominant vision, which is supported by many rural economists and claims an “end of history” for farmers, with farming households which do not want to become part of globalized value chains, or cannot do so. On the contrary, this article underlines growing farmers’ resistance to the dynamics of agrarian capitalization.
