When Tutors and Pupils Unite as a Couple: A Changed Relationship as Depicted in French Literature
Type de matériel :

French literature has produces a number of texts in which tutors and pupils come together to form a couple. These are scarce and these circumstances are found in 18th and 19th century literature. The typical factor they share is the evolution of the tutor/pupil relationship to that of a couple which is always founded on amorous desire. Based on the analysis of a corpus of nine relevant texts, the description of the difficulties and pain brought on by this transformation appears to be misinterpreted by our “romantic”perception of desire. The theory of desire developed by René Girard clarifies this notion.
