The purpose of this paper is to determine theoretically the need for information required by agents in optimizing their decision making. The increasing development of information leads to informational overconsumption, which is a real threat to efficiency. The development of theoretical tools borrowed from economics provides an analytical framework for quantifying the need for information. The notions of substitutability and complementarity are expanded within the field of business intelligence.
