This study was aimed to explore if shared physical activities, as joint leisure activities, were protective factors in the couple relationship. The mediator role of communication and marital support was also investigated. Ninety-six couples completed a leisure / physical activity questionnaire, including a marital support scale, the Dyadic Adjustment Scale, and the Communication Pattern Questionnaire. Results showed that shared physical activities were associated with perceived support in joint physical activity, which explained dyadic adjustment in men. However, the demand-withdraw pattern of communication was a mediator in the relationship between joint leisure activities and marital satisfaction for both partners. Mutual communication mediated the same link, but for men only.
