The era of intimacy. A new agenda for the history of the family in contemporary Italy
Type de matériel :
31
The article proposes a theoretical reflection on historiography dedicated to family relationships in XX century Italy with the aim of tracing a new research agenda, capable of going beyond the results obtained in the fertile season of the 1980s. In the light of cultural and gender history, the article argues the need to take a perspective less centered on linear reconstructions and more careful to illuminate the social conflicts that cross the very definition of family and intimacy. By focusing on two emblematic themes, consumption practices and reproductive behaviors, the article then deals with the methodological question posed by the progressive weakening of social history and supports the need for an intertwining between the ‘social’ and the ‘cultural’.
