Gender diversity in boardrooms in Morocco: Current state and research perspectives

This research aims to present the main findings on the link between gender diversity in boardrooms and firm performance. This article analyzes the evolution of the representation of women by providing an overview of their presence on governance boards before the implementation of the quota law in Morocco. The analysis is based on a review of the financial and ESG reports of sixty-nine publicly listed companies in Morocco between 2019 and 2021. By cross-referencing secondary data, the results highlight the low representation of women on corporate boards in Morocco. Overall, this research provides new data specific to the Moroccan context on the presence of women on boards to enable comparisons for future research on the subject.
