In these texts, Helmholtz used the then recently developed non-Euclidean geometries to analyze Kant's conception of space. Through this, he provided a purely empiricist redefinition of what determines space. This "physical geometry" greatly influenced Poincaré (who did not totally agree with him) and Einstein.
