Assessing social cognition in adults: Preliminary validation of the Bordeaux Social Cognition Assessment Protocol

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2014. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Social cognition has received a growing interest in many pathologies. This construct, which actually covers different dimensions, can be measured by numerous tests, of which few have been validated in French. The aim of this study was to develop a protocol for social cognition assessment in adults and to conduct a preliminary validation with healthy persons. The Bordeaux Social Cognition Assessment Protocol (PECS-B) includes seven tests assessing recognition of facial emotions, theory of mind, emotional fluency, emotional awareness, and alexithymia. The PECS-B was administered to 109 adults aged eighteen to fifty-nine who had no neurological or psychiatric disorders. The results show good construct and concurrent validity. Exploratory factor analysis suggests that the PECS-B measures several dimensions of social cognition: a common dimension (emotional information processing) and three more specific ones, i.e. cognitive theory of mind, emotional lexicon, and facial emotion recognition. The results support the distinction between “affective” and “cognitive” social cognition.
