RésuméCe papier explore certaines contradictions sociétales, organisationnelles et individuelles ayant trait à l’organisation de soins de santé collectifs. Nous examinons de prêt l’ontologie du soin, et ses formes diverses et variées au sein des systèmes de santé. Les distinctions ainsi faites mettent en avant certaines profondes contradictions dans la manière dont nous évaluons le soin. Ces contradictions sont à leur tour miroitées dans des normes, institutions et pratiques, qui bien que pas insurmontables demandent à être prises aux sérieux quand il s’agit d’organiser nos soins collectifs. Nous proposons un détour par l’éthique du soin (“the ethics of care”), dans la mesure où celle-ci est capable d’informer de manière constructive notre pensée sur les soins de santé, à condition que nous ne restions pas naïfs face aux contradictions ayant trait aux soins, ainsi que soulignées dans ce papier.

This paper explores societal, organisational, and individual contradictions relevant to the provision of collective health care. We look closely at the ontology of care, and the various forms it takes in health care systems. The distinctions bring to the fore deep tensions and contradictions in how we value care, reflected in norms, institutions and practices, which though not irresolvable need to be explicitly addressed when striving to meet collective health care needs. We explain how the ethics of care helps us think about the collective organisation of health care, so long as we are not naïve about, and take into account, the tensions and contradictions surrounding care that are discussed in this paper.
