From where did the first living cell originate? The history of science portrays the persistence of such a quest about the origins of life. The development of biology, biochemistry, and even astronomy has made it possible to raise a few hypotheses. The origins of life cannot today be explained in terms of the origin of a substance responsible for all vital processes, not even in terms of the origin of a molecule, be it a gene or an enzyme, however complex they may be.
