Group Ritualization and Symbolization

Aspects of the rite can be observed on a scale ranging from the most imperious practice to the most tenuous habit, without, however, being dissolved in the latter. Therefore, no group or individual can claim to be in no way involved in rites. When ritualization increases, but is still available for psychoanalytic work, it may lead to symbolization. However, this paper identifies other group conditions, less elaborate, and the “useful” or “alienating” effects they produce.
