The spring 2020 lockdown has both made housing density visible and increased it. It led to a forced reallocation of space within French households. Drawing from a selection of twelve interviews with women heads of households, who participated in the longitudinal Class Confinement survey throughout spring 2020, this article shows that men and children were given priority in the allocation of space, even though women mainly carried out the reallocation. Women occupy the last free space in the house and this contributes to normalise the unequal distribution of domestic work in times of confinement.
