This article analyzes the concern of internet users about the ethical management of their private data by online companies. Using an empirical model applied to a sample of consumers in three countries, France (193 respondents), Lebanon (214 respondents), and Japan (183 respondents), we compare the risk aversion of internet users in each country, i.e., their willingness or refusal to provide information to online companies. We also explore the differences in internet users’ perceptions of the ethics of online companies’ behavior in these three countries. We conclude by discussing the effect of cultural differences on that behavior.
