Death at the Beginning of Hippolytus by Euripides
Type de matériel :
58
The suicide of Phaedra has been decided ever since the beginning by Aphrodite. The quarrel of the goddesses in the prologue dramatizes a symbolical staging of the necessity of this death. Phaedra plays the role of the lover and Hippolytus embodies the hatred of love. Her lying will vanquish he who swerved and denied her. Through her suicide she kills and unites with he who meets her in death.
