Winnicott’s formation passed through long years of therapeutic analysis and didactic training which, ultimately, led to the lifting in extremis of a serious life threatening symptom and to the discovery of the transitional object. Nevertheless, the narrative of these years of formation and cure also evidences their drawback. Indeed, Winnicott never parted from a certain idealization of the mother nor from his inhibition in view of the Freudian theory, preferring his own personal elaboration to a critical but fertile approach.
