In a love letter to Milena, Kafka specifies his opposition to psychoanalysis by denying that one might “recover” in any sense from certain deep and intimate psychological dispositions. He then offers a diagram to the reader, which I see as a sort of Freudian “psychic apparatus”, in order to demonstrate, in his particular case, the links between his anxiety and his writing.
