This paper deals with the consequences of breast cancer on the professional reintegration of 21 women. These women were under the age of 40 at the time of diagnosis and have been questioned 16 to 24 months later. Although they all express the willingness to reengage in the professional world, their life courses testify that their disease induced deep transformations in their professional lives. Through an analysis of interactions between disease and work in the life narratives of these women, this paper contributes to a broader reflection on the understandings of breast cancer and work in our societies, and of the relationship between them.
