Instrumentation reviews regularly denounce the processes for leading social change resulting from a sociological intervention without providing any clear explanation of the theoretical basis of this criticism. This article proposes to complete the three main aspects of sociological intervention – academic research, critical sociology and clinical sociology – with that of « critical contributory mediation ». It presents a dynamic interrogation of the notion of instrumentation in view of the new social and politic relations introduced by the diminished symmetry between profane knowledge and expert knowledge.
