Institutional Violence, Violence within the Institution

Acts of violence within the institution may come from the institution itself: from people interacting, from the organization, and from its functioning. These violent events must be “deconstructed” by taking into account the context, the actors, the representations, and the social norms. Intervening in such a complex institutional system implies a look at relevant levels such as hierarchy, place, and role. From this perspective, the author suggests a seven-pole model which can be helpful to negotiate a framework and a setting for an intervention adapted to the professionals’ demands.
