The Centre Exil—a medical and psychosocial center—aims to support the “positive care” of families in exile. In this framework, the staff in the program for children and their families aims at maintaining the resources these families employ to offer “positive care” and to allow their children to grow up and develop. “Positive care” is the result of the mobilization of community resources and parental competences to meet children’s needs, taking also into consideration the resilience resources of all the people taking part in the process. Our work consists in treating the individual consequences of the trauma at a medical, psychological, and social level; reconstructing the family, social, and community bonds, and supporting families through their adaptation process in Belgium. This work takes place in various spaces: consultations, discussion and self-help groups, creative workshops, and residential activities.
