In France as in many other countries, the debate between history and memory occurs in school, especially in high school. It is not a question of refusing memory, which is brought by witnesses, and has the status of a good pedagogical aid. However, history must be taught in a meaningful way and remain at the service of the constantly improved truth. It is at such a price that it will maintain its strength of civic conviction.
