Transcultural competence and synergic management: Highlighting the links in a service-providing SME

The purpose of our article is to better understand the interactions of cultural differences with regard to the competences deployed within a service-providing international SME, by mobilizing the concepts of cultural synergy and intercultural competence. We present the results of a qualitative study conducted in a business unit of an international SME located in France. An analysis of the twenty-five interviews conducted with the unit’s managers, employees, and customers allows us to show an overcoming of cultural diversity, in the sense that the latter is internalized and the intercultural competence facilitates the development of the activity of the analyzed business unit. This competence is related to the experience of the individual and is transcultural in the case of the manager of the unit.
