This text relates the story of the documentary cinema festival “Traces de vies”   (“Life Traces”), inaugurated in 1991 by a social work training center. What are the conditions enabling artistic creation to emerge in the health and social sectors and in institutions? In such a rigorous environment, the will to support atypical and unreasonable initiatives can facilitate unusual meetings coming from a rich source of significations. This article offers thoughts about the notion of reality in the field of cinematography and for art in general today.
