Cet article restitue en partie les résultats d’une thèse de doctorat réalisée sur les pratiques françaises de modification de la météo par ensemencement des nuages. À l’interface de l’histoire des sciences et des sciences de l’information et de la communication, ce travail de recherche identifie les acteurs impliqués dans ces pratiques, explore la manière dont ils interviennent sur notre environnement naturel et leurs motivations. Une attention particulière est accordée aux outils et instruments techniques qu’ils utilisent, avec pour objectif d’étudier leur culture symbolique et matérielle, et de voir dans quelle mesure celle-ci s’articule à des stratégies de légitimation et de promotion d’une climatisation technique de l’atmosphère.

The article is based on a doctoral thesis concerning the French practice of weather modification through cloud seeding. At the intersection of the history of science and the information and communication sciences, the research identifies the actors involved in these practices, explores the ways in which they intervene in our natural environment, and examines their underlying motivations. Particular attention is given to the technical tools and instruments used, exploring their symbolic and material culture, and how this is linked to strategies for legitimising and promoting the artificial cooling of the atmosphere.
