RésuméLes personnes prises en charge dans le cadre d’un centre d’hébergement ont un logement qui leur est attribué en vue de favoriser leur « réinsertion sociale ». Elles sont, là, soumises à des contrôles et des obligations. Leur intimité est sans cesse remise en question. Clarifiant ce qui caractérise cette intimité, nous montrerons que la perte du contrôle du regard d’autrui sur soi menace le territoire d’intimité, lieu sécurisant, qui permet à l’être social de se définir dans la permanence. Il est quotidiennement violé par l’intrusion des autres hébergés et des éducateurs. L’attitude des professionnels de l’intervention sociale (qui insistent par ailleurs sur la nécessité de « respecter la personne »), se trouve légitimée par la définition même du centre d’hébergement : une propriété sociale, bien collectif non appropriable par les particuliers. Dans cette orientation idéologique, il va de soi que la collectivité incarnée par les personnels a un droit de regard pour en contrôler l’usage.

People who are housed in an accomodation centre in order to facilitate their « social rehabilitation » are subject to controls and obligations that continuously threaten their intimacy. The author analyses the characteristics of this intimacy and shows that when a social being loses control over other people’s opinion of himself, he feels threatened in his intimate and reassuring territory that enables him to define himself permanently. This territory is violated by the intrusion of other accomodated people and teachers. The attitude of social workers who stress the necessity of respecting the individual is legitimated by the definition of the accomodation centre : a social collective property that cannot be appropriated by private individuals. In this ideological perspective it is self-evident that the collectivity embodied by the employees has a right to control how the centre is used.

ZusammenfassungLeute, die in einem Beherbergungszentrum aufgenommen werden, um ihre Resozialisierung zu erleichtern, werden Kontrollen und Verpflichtungen unterworfen, die ihre Intimität ständig bedrohen. Durch die Analyse dessen, was die Intimität kennzeichnet, zeigt der Autor, dass, wenn ein soziales Wesen die Kontrolle auf die Meinung der anderen von ihm verliert, dann wird sein intimes beruhigendes Gebiet bedroht, das ihm ermöglicht, sich ständig zu definieren. Dieses Gebiet wird ständig von den anderen beherbergten Leuten und Erziehern verletzt. Das Verhalten der Sozialarbeiter, die auf die Notwendigkeit dringen, das Individuum zu respektieren, wird durch die Definition des Beherbergungszentrums legitimiert : es ist ein soziales Eigentum, ein kollektives Gut, das sich Privatpersonen nicht aneignen können. Aus dieser ideologischen Perspektive hat selbstverständlich die von dem Personal verkörperte Gemeinschaft Kontrollrecht über den Gebrauch dieses Gutes.
