RésuméTrois hôpitaux parisiens s’apprêtent à fermer totalement ou partiellement à l’occasion de leur transfert et de leur regroupement dans une nouvelle installation. Ces changements ont conduit les instances de direction à faire appel à des ethnologues pour la réalisation d’une étude sur la mémoire et l’identité de chacun des sites, et pour une collecte d’objets dans un dessein de patrimonialisation. En 1998, une convention est signée entre l’Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris et le Musée national des Arts et Traditions populaires-Centre d’Ethnologie française. Cet article se propose de saisir, d’une part, comment s’élabore un dispositif mémoriel dans une telle situation, et d’autre part comment les chercheurs ont endossé de multiples et nouveaux rôles qui redéfinissent le métier d’ethnologue : experts des rites, du changement et des identités, ils se sont fait également « accompagnateurs sociaux » aidant au « travail de deuil » du personnel.

Three Parisian hospitals will be closed down totally or in part on account of their transfer and reorganisation at a new location. These changes have prompted the management to call on ethnologists for a study of the history and the identity of each one of these units and for identifying objects, which may be recognized for their heritage values. In 1998, an agreement is signed between the Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris and the Musée national des Arts et Traditions populaires-Centre d’Ethnologie française. The present article attempts to describe, on the one hand, how a memorial institution can be set up in a situation such as this, and, on the other hand, how the researchers have been able to cope with the new and varied rôles they have had to assume: in addition to their being experts in rites, in change and in identities they had to become « social workers » helping with the « mourning » of the personnel.

ZusammenfassungDrei Pariser Krankenhäuser stehen vor einer völligen oder partiellen Schliessung im Rahmen ihrer Verlagerung bzw. Zusammenlegung zu einer neuen Einheit. Diese Veränderungen haben die leitenden Stellen veranlasst, Ethnologen mit einer Studie über Geschichte und Gestalt jeder dieser Anstalten und mit der Sammlung von entsprechenden Objekten zu beauftragen. Eine Übereinkunft hierzu wird 1998 zwischen der Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris und dem Musée national des Arts et Traditions populaires-Centre d’Ethnologie française unterzeichnet. Ziel des vorliegenden Artikels ist einerseits, den Aufbau einer entsprechenden Gedenkeinrichtung zu beschreiben, und andererseits aufzuzeigen, wie die Forscher die verschiedenen und neuen Rollen übernommen haben, die ihnen hier zugeteilt wurden: aus Fachleuten für Riten, für Veränderungen, für Identitäten wurden sie hier auch zu « Sozialarbeitern » bei der « Trauerarbeit » des Personals.
