L’un des enjeux du travail social consiste à trouver un juste équilibre en une pratique du care équitable et rationnelle, et la présence d’une symbolique du don au sein des échanges entre professionnels et usagers. Si le don ouvre la porte à l’interprétation subjective jugée incompatible avec les attentes gestionnaires de la pratique du care, il permet également au lien de se tisser dans la relation d’accompagnement. Le juste équilibre entre don et care s’avère une épreuve complexe pour le travail social contemporain.

One of the challenges of social work is to find the right balance between an equitable and rational practice of care, and the presence of a symbolic gift within the exchanges between professionals and users. If the gift opens the door to subjective interpretation deemed incompatible with the managerial expectations of the practice of care, it also allows the bond to be woven in the support relationship. Finding the right balance between the gift and care is a complex task for contemporary social work.
