RésuméL’histoire des espaces humides (marais, étangs, tourbières, etc.) a été peu abordée jusqu’ici par les historiens français. Espaces longtemps déconsidérés et perçus par les élites politiques et scientifiques comme nuisibles à l’homme et inutiles à l’économie, ils attirent aujourd’hui l’attention des pouvoirs publics. Il appartient aux historiens de donner à ces espaces une dimension temporelle encore insuffisamment développée.

Few French historians so far have shown interest in the history of wetlands, whether swamps, ponds, peat bogs, etc. While up to recently, wetlands were considered inferior spaces, seen by the political and scientific elites as a nuisance for human life and an economic liability, today they are a topic of considerable public attention. It is important that historians provide wetlands with their temporal dimension, largely undevelopped up to now.
