Elle atteint également la famille et les soignants dans ce qui constitue alors la souffrance totale. Dans un service d’onco-hématologie, la souffrance est un phénomène complexe qui requiert une prise en charge personnalisée s’attachant à prévenir et à traiter la souffrance du patient, des familles et des soignants.

Suffering is a subjective experience for every person confronted to painful event but it first affects the patient. In the concept of total suffering, family and health carers are also considered. In onco-haematology units, suffering is a complex phenomenon requiring personalized management in order to prevent and to treat suffering of the patient, of the family and of health carers.
