RésuméLe Haut Commissariat aux réfugiés (HCR) de l’ONU au Caire, principal interlocuteur des réfugiés et demandeurs d’asile en Égypte, est aujourd’hui connecté à un réseau étendu d’organisations, confessionnelles ou non. Les restrictions politiques du HCR et de l’État égyptien conduisent à la production de migrants «?sans statut?», sans empêcher l’arrivée de nouveaux Subsahariens. Face aux vides institutionnels de l’assistance, des organisations et des systèmes plus informels sont façonnés par et pour les migrants subsahariens, où l’appartenance chrétienne semble jouer un rôle important. Au-delà des identités religieuses plus ou moins visibles des acteurs de l’assistance, l’état du système de l’asile en Égypte et les liens avec la société civile égyptienne méritent d’être interrogés.

«?Transiting?» sub-saharan migrants and refugees in Cairo?: a christian monopoly on the assistance??The United Nations High-Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Cairo is the leading figure for refugees and asylum seekers in Egypt. It is today connected to a wide network of organizations, faith-based or not. The political restrictions from both the UNHCR and the Egyptian government lead to the emergence of migrants with no status, without preventing the arrival of new Sub-Saharans. In view of these institutional gaps in the assistance, more informal organizations and systems are now shaped by and for Sub-Saharan migrants, with a Christian influence that seems to play an important role. Beyond the religious identities, more or less visible among the protagonists of the assistance, the state of the asylum system in Egypt and the links with the Egyptian civil society are worth questioning.
