Cet article analyse le projet des fédérations d’éducation populaire de créer un statut de volontaire dans l’animation déconnecté du droit du travail, en le reliant au dispositif du service civique volontaire. Il montre, d’une part, l’inadéquation de ce projet avec les aspirations et les trajectoires professionnelles dans l’animation et, d’autre part, celle du dispositif avec les motivations des jeunes en service civique. De surcroît, il analyse comment la rhétorique plébiscitant l’engagement occulte les enjeux économiques et contribue à une reconfiguration du marché du travail.

Voluntary workers in community centresThis article analyses the adult education federations’ plan to create a voluntary status for community centre workers disconnected from labour law, linking it to the voluntary community service system. It shows firstly the mismatch between this plan and the aspirations and career paths of community centre workers, and secondly the mismatch between the system and the motivations of young people in community service. Furthermore, it reveals how the rhetoric lauding commitment obscures the economic issues and contributes to a reconfiguration of the labour market.
