Cet article apporte des précisions sur la carrière anglaise du général François Jarry de la Vilette qui fit l’essentiel de sa carrière au service de la Prusse et participa dans l’armée française à la campagne de 1792. De 1793 à 1806, Jarry est au service du gouvernement britannique, d’abord comme conseiller militaire jusqu’en 1799, notamment pendant la campagne des Flandres, puis comme enseignant et Inspecteur au Royal Military College, qu’il fonde avec le major-général Le Marchant, et où il assure la formation des officiers de l’armée britannique. Ses écrits, conservés dans les archives britanniques, pour la plupart inédits, portent un regard critique sur les choix stratégiques faits par les membres de la Première coalition et la conduite de la guerre.

This article brings new information about the English career of General Francois Jarry de la Vilette who spent most of his career in the service of Prussia and participated in the French Army in the campaign of 1792. From 1793 to 1806, Jarry was in the service of the British government, first as a military advisor until 1799, notably during the campaign in Flanders, then as instructor and Inspector at the Royal Military College that he founded with the Major-general le Marchant, and where he trained British army officers. His writings, keep in the British archives, most of them unpublished, cast a critical light on the strategic choices made by members of the First Coalition and the conduct of the War.
