L’article propose une vision rétrospective de l’historiographie contemporaine (1966-2016) de la Normandie depuis d’installation des vikings dans ce qui devient le duché jusqu’à la conquête de l’Angleterre par Guillaume le Conquérant. Deux points sont successivement abordés, autour de quelques mots-clefs permettant non d’embrasser l’exhaustivité de la réflexion au cours de ces cinquante années, mais d’en suivre quelques grandes orientations (même s’il n’a pas été possible d’aborder en détail l’étude et l’édition des sources). Une première partie discute les notions de continuité et de discontinuité qui ont longtemps dominé les préoccupations des chercheurs, nuance les notions de legs ou d’héritage et aborde les discussions autour de l’identité normande. Un second axe examine les influences du débat mutationnistes sur l’historiographie des années 1980-2000, les nouvelles lectures permises par une histoire plus proches des sciences sociales et par l’examen des mouvements de réforme religieuse. L’article aborde en conclusion la Normandie dans l’histoire européenne, notamment à la lumière des études portant plus spécifiquement sur les réseaux.

This article offers a retrospective view of the Norman contemporary historiography (1966-2016) since the installation of the Vikings in what became the Duchy until the conquest of England by William the Conqueror. Two items are successively addressed, around a few key words that allow us not to embrace the comprehensiveness of reflection during these fifty years, but to follow a few of their main lines of thought (even if it was not possible to deal with the study and editing of records in details). An initial phase discusses the notions off continuity and discontinuity that have long dominated the concerns of researchers; it also nuances the notions of legacy or inheritance and addresses discussions surrounding the Norman identity. A second avenue examines the influences of the mutationist debate on the historiography of the 1980s-2000s, the new readings allowed by a convergence between history and social studies, and the examination of religious reform movements. The article concludes with Normandy in European history, particularly in the light of the studies dealing specifically with networks.
