Two fragmentary Archaic statues of lion-bearers—thus leontophoroi—were found in 2021 close to the Hellenistic through Roman temple of Zeus Lepsynos at Euromos, in Caria. One is a naked kouros and bears an inscription in Carian on the left thigh, while the other is an armored figure. Both statues were apparently reexhibited on Hellenistic bases. This article presents the context of their discovery and provides a detailed description of those two statues of a new type, complete with illustrations. These votive offerings are then compared with the closest parallels found from the East and the West, and they are finally examined within the multicultural context of ancient Caria.

Deux statues fragmentaires de porteurs de lions archaïques – léontophores – ont été trouvées à Euromos, près du temple hellénistico-romain de Zeus Lepsynos en Carie. L’une est celle d’un kouros nu et comporte une inscription en carien sur la cuisse gauche, tandis que l’autre est un personnage cuirassé. Ces deux statues furent, semble-t-il, réexposées sur des bases hellénistiques. Cet article présente le contexte de leur découverte et fournit une description détaillée ainsi que des illustrations de ces deux statues de type nouveau. Ces offrandes sont ensuite comparées aux parallèles les plus proches d’Orient et d’Occident, puis replacées dans le contexte de la société multiculturelle de la Carie antique.

Arkaik döneme ait iki aslan taşıyıcı heykeli—leontophoroi—2021 yılında Karia’daki Euromos’ta bulunan Helenistik dönemden Roma dönemine ait Zeus Lepsynos tapınağının yakınlarında bulunmuştur. Biri çıplak bir kouros olup sol uyluğunda Karia dilinde bir yazıt taşırken, diğeri zırhlı bir figürdür. Her iki heykel de Hellenistik kaideler üzerinde yeniden sergilenmiş gibi görünmektedir. Bu makale, heykellerin bulunuş bağlamını sunmakta ve yeni bir tip olan bu iki heykelin detaylı bir tanımını çizimlerle birlikte vermektedir. Yeni tipteki bu heykeller daha sonra doğuda ve batıda bulunan en yakın paralelleriyle karşılaştırılmakta ve antik Karia bağlamında yeniden konumlandırılmaktadır.
