Cet article part du constat que, dans leur circulation, certaines pratiques musicales et chorégraphiques du Pacifique sont redéfinies comme « patrimoine ». Il s’agit de comprendre les facteurs expliquant cette requalification au regard des contextes dans lesquels elle intervient. L’article examine également ce que ces « patrimonialisations » peuvent nous apprendre sur la dynamique des appartenances sociales générée par la migration d’une part et sur la place accordée aux populations migrantes dans leur pays d’installation d’autre part.

Mobility and patrimonialisation of expressive aesthetic practices in the Pacific: examples from Tonga and New ZealandThis article stems from the observation that, as they circulate, some musical and choreographic practices of the Pacific are redefined as “heritage”. The article aims to understand the factors explaining this re-characterisation according to the contexts in which it intervenes. The article also examines what these heritage-making processes can tell us about the dynamics of social belonging produced by migration, and about the status of migrants in the countries where they settle.
