Le mythe de Daphné est envisagé à travers son expression dans des créations musicales : un opéra vénitien du XVIIe siècle, Gli amori d’Apollo e di Dafne, de Cavalli, une cantate du début du XVIIIe siècle, Apollo e Dafne, de Haendel et un opéra dont la création date de 1938 : Daphne, de Richard Strauss. Le thème de la métamorphose est traité dans ses nombreuses variations à partir du noyau du mythe tel qu’il a été écrit par Ovide.

The myth of Daphne is considered in relation to its expression in musical compositions: a 17th century Venetian opera, Gli amori d’Apollo e di Dafne, by Cavalli; an early 18th century cantata, Apollo e Dafne, by Haendel; and an opera first performed in 1938: Daphne, by Richard Strauss. The theme of metamorphosis and its many variations are analyzed on the basis of a kernel of the myth as written by Ovid.
