Le nouveau né est introduit à la dimension d’une expérience constituante non seulement par une unité duelle mais aussi par une ouverture à l’autre de cette même unité ; ouverture qui se fait à travers le rapport que la mère entretient, elle-même, avec le monde extérieur. L’étude des échanges tactiles et sonores mère-nourrisson permet de mettre en évidence des problématiques très complexes qui influent sur le développement du nouveau-né. Le thème de l’étranger est alors lié aux premières modalités de confrontation avec ce qui dans le rapport mère-enfant apparaît comme extérieur au vécu de la complétude de la relation originaire.

The newborn infant is introduced to a deep constituent experience not only by the dual unity of the mother-infant dyad, but also by this dyad’s attitude to the other; that is, an attitude that reflects the mother’s relations with the outside world. A study of mother-infant tactile and auditory exchanges demonstrates the complexity of the problematic attending the infant’s development. The theme of the foreigner is thus related to the ways in which the mother-infant relationship confronts what appears to be exterior to the experience of wholeness in the original relation.
