En reprenant l’histoire et les variations des termes Éros et Thanatos et des notions de notions de pulsion de vie et pulsion de mort, cet article s’efforce de montrer en quoi la définition d’Éros comme capacité à investir, due à Piera Aulagnier, et son corollaire qui positionnerait Thanatos du côté du découragement, permettent de situer le travail comme mode d’investissement possible pour lutter contre le chaos pulsionnel. Une des tâches centrales de l’analyse de pratiques consisterait alors à soutenir groupalement cet investissement.

Supporting Work : a Psychological Position in Face of Chaos Taking up the history of and variations in the terms Eros and Thanatos, and the idea of life and death instincts once again, this article attempts to show how Piera Aulagnier’s definition of Eros as the capacity for cathexis, and its corollary placing Thanatos on the side of discouragement, allows us to consider work a possible mode of cathexis in the struggle against instinctual chaos. A central task of the analysis of practice thus consists in supporting that investment in group.
