L’objet de ce texte est de souligner combien le travail d’écriture de Montaigne sur lui-même, élaborant le deuil de son ami puis de son père, est proche à bien des égards de celui de l’analysant et du psychanalyste. Une page typique des Essais apparaît en effet, par bien des aspects, comme le discours de l’analysant soumis à la « libre association » : méandres, divergences, associations surprenantes, adhésion, puis changement de cap. Une opinion, une pensée, un rêve, sont observés aux prismes d’autres opinions, pensées ou rêves : telle pensée d’un auteur ancien, telle pensée de Montaigne lui-même, se renvoient dans un dialogue incessant au point qu’on ne peut qu’évoquer, dans cette manière d’écrire et de penser, à ce qu’A. Green appelle la réverbération rétroactive, l’irradiation significative et le rayonnement associatif trouvés dans le travail psychique propre à la cure .

The object of this text is to underline how much the work of writing of Montaigne on itself, developing the mourning of his friend then his father, is close in many respects to that of him analyzing and to the psychoanalyst. A typical page of the Essais indeed appears, by many aspects, as the speech of him analyzing subjected to the “free association“: meanders, differences, surprising associations, membership, then change of cape. An opinion, a thought, a dream, are observed in the prisms of the other opinions, thought or the dreams : such thought of a former author, such thought of Montaigne himself, send back in a ceaseless dialogue to the point that we can only evoke, in this way write/ and think, in what A. Green calls the “associative radiation” and the “retroactive reverberation” found in the psychic work peculiar to the cure.
