This paper uses a mixture of psychoanalytical and anthropological perspectives to analyze the logics of social divisions in adolescence when these are experienced and legitimized in terms of “ethnic” or “racial” divisions. These demands are made the symptom of a serious rupture in the assemblages between otherness and identity. The fate of many young people, who are destined to enter a shared secular world, is envisaged here as a response to a logic of segregation.
