Science and occultism are frequently opposed, but are most of the time deeply associated. This is true nowadays, as it was in the past. The modern occulture is simultaneously influenced by high-tech, fantasy, pop-culture and old magical traditions. And even the hyperrationalist speculations of transhumanists frequently present similarities with theories from the old grimoires. But, contrary to most transhumanists, the modern magician sees transhumanity as an enhancement of our biological roots, rather than hybridization between human and machine.
