Édouard Claparède est un des fondateurs de la psychologie scientifique et un pionnier de l’éducation nouvelle. Une partie de son œuvre a été consacrée à l’orientation professionnelle. En 1918 il facilite l’ouverture d’un cabinet d’orientation professionnelle au sein de l’Institut Jean-Jacques Rousseau à Genève. Il est l’organisateur des premiers congrès internationaux de psychologie appliquée où l’on traite alors uniquement d’orientation professionnelle. Enfin, il se livre à une réflexion approfondie de la notion d’aptitude. Comment diagnostiquer les aptitudes ? Sont-elles éducables ?

Édouard Claparède was one of the founders of scientific psychology and a pioneer of the “new education” movement. One aspect of his work was a lifelong interest in vocational guidance. In 1918 he facilitated the opening of an Office of vocational guidance within the Institut Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Geneva. He organized the first international congresses of applied psychology devoted solely to vocational guidance. Finally, he engaged in a thorough reflection on the notion of aptitude.
