Ce travail s’inscrit dans le cadre d’une recherche collective sur l’histoire de la recherche en éducation. Il se situe à l’articulation des sciences de l’éducation, de l’histoire et de la sociologie des sciences (sociales). Il s’agit de saisir la constitution des sciences de l’éducation, avant et après son institutionnalisation universitaire en France. En reconstituant les parcours biographiques (professionnels, militants) d’un groupe d’acteurs, cet article cherche à comprendre comment ce groupe s’est structuré et a structuré le champ disciplinaire des sciences de l’éducation. Il porte sur l’un des acteurs centraux de cette histoire, Jean Château. À partir de différentes archives, de traces écrites (essentiellement des publications scientifiques ou de vulgarisation), l’importance des échanges entre acteurs et des associations dans le processus d’institutionnalisation des sciences de l’éducation en France est mis en exergue.

This paper is part of a collective study on the history of research in education. It is located at the intersection of the educational sciences, history and the sociology of the (social) sciences. It aims at understanding the constitution of the educational sciences before and after their institutionalisation in France as a university discipline. By reconstituting the biographies (as professionals and as activists) of a group of social agents, this paper focuses on understanding how the group organised itself and organised the educational sciences as an academic field. It centres on one of the actors central to this story, Jean Château. Using a variety of archival and published sources (scientific or vulgarisation publications essentially), it highlights the importance of the exchanges between agents and their organisations in the process of institutionalisation of the educational sciences in France.
