Comme objet malléable intermédiaire, conteneur, médiateur et transformateur des destins de la pulsion et structure transitionnelle étayant le travail de sublimation et d’élaboration, l’objet culturel assure, comme tel, une fonctionnalité essentielle dans la construction de la relation à soi, aux autres et à l’ensemble. La contextualité hypermoderne de la marchandisation généralisée et de l’impératif de jouissance immédiate tend à le réduire au statut de produit consommable et jetable dont la valeur symbolique et symbolisante apparaît désormais problématique.

The Cultural Object and Its Mediating Function The cultural object, whether symbolic or material, rooted in society and in history, functions to civilize, subjectivize and socialize both the individual and the group.
