RésuméChoisissant pour terrain d’enquête la ville d’Angers, cet article s’intéresse à la façon dont les services municipaux prennent en charge les plaintes liées au bruit et construisent ce phénomène en catégorie de l’intervention publique. Inscrit dans une réflexion plus générale sur le sonore comme produit, agent et révélateur du pouvoir, sous-tendu par les travaux de Michel Foucault sur le biopouvoir, la norme et le contrôle, ce texte s’attache à décrire les multiples circuits qu’emprunte la plainte et les phénomènes de « traduction » auxquels elle donne lieu, dans les interactions entre plaignants et récipiendaires.

Taking the city of Angers as its field of investigation, this article sheds light on the way municipal services respond to complaints about noise nuisance and use this phenomenon as a category of public responsibility. As part of a more general debate on noise as a “product”, being itself an agent and an indicator of power relationships, as underlined by Michel Foucault’s work on “biopower”, norms and control, the study sets out to describe the multiple circuits followed by noise-related complaints and the dimensions of their interpretation during the interactions between complainants and those dealing with them.
